Civil registration—the recording of births, marriages, and deaths by civil authorities—was instituted in the Netherlands in 1811. This collection is an index to Rotterdam marriage records from 1811 to 1935. Records typically include the following information: names, ages, birthplaces, and parents of bride and groom, and marriage date and place.<br><br>This index also provides the register number—a unique number per record and year. The year and register number is necessary information for ordering a copy of the original marriage record from the Stadsarchief Rotterdam (Rotterdam City Archives).
